Text

Phase separation is a recent cell biological phenomenon that cells ubiquitously use to create transient, dynamic reaction spaces (doi: 10.1126/science.aaf4382). There have been few studies of this in plants. Preliminary work has identified chloroplast RNA binding proteins (RBPs) capable of phase separation. The genetic and microscopic analyses will be carried out in Berlin at AG Schmitz-Linneweber. In a longer stay at the Helmholtz Center in Munich in the AG Sattler (up to one year) the phase separation of RBPs will be determined by NMR.

Tasks:

  • Scientific services in the DFG-funded SPP2191 project "Temperature-dependent phase separation of RNA binding proteins in chloroplasts", the task within this PhD project is to genetically and biochemically characterize selected RBPs and to determine the biological function of phase separation in chloroplast gene expression
  • Tasks for your own scientific qualification (PhD)

Requirements:

  • University degree in biochemistry, biology, biophysics or comparable subject
  • biochemical knowledge is of particular advantage
  • good communication skills (written and oral)
  • thorough, efficient, independent working style and ability to work in a team
