The Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Department of Philosophy, invites applications for a
Junior Professorship for “Knowledge, Language, Mind” (W1 with Tenure Track W2)
from October 1st, 2026.
The holder of the position should combine the areas of epistemology, philosophy of language and philosophy of mind in research and teaching, and should be recognized through previous work in at least one of these areas. An outstanding dissertation in philosophy, an excellent record - relative to the candidate's career stage - of internationally recognized publications and strong teaching skills are expected. Teaching is required in all the courses of study offered by the department, and also in the Master's Program "Mind and Brain". The research and teaching statements, which are part of the application, should show a clear connection with "Mind and Brain" by identifying links between philosophy, linguistics, cognitive science and/or psychology.
This position is a tenure-track position. No later than 15 months before the end of the tenure-track professorship, an evaluation procedure is initiated with the aim of determining whether the performance requirements for a lifetime appointment have been met. Tenure-track professors at HU Berlin are expected to perform in the areas of research, academic teaching, participation in academic self-government, support of early-career researchers and the acquisition of personnel management skills. The specific performance requirements are determined in the course of the appointment procedure and are based on the framework catalogue (Rahmenkatalog).
The applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in conjunction with § 102c combined with § 102a of the ‘Berliner Hochschulgesetz’.
